Chapter Fourteen

Nite

An awkward trip into the 24/7 pharmacy had Nite snickering from the confines of Rex’s jacket. Never mind us, just here to buy some rubbers so I can go home and plow my cat.

Rex tugged the zipper up on his jacket and groaned, unable to respond to him in public.

“Sir? You can’t have that cat in here,” a droopy-eyed teen said from the counter. Rex stared as he passed the box over the scanner far too many times, trying to get the code to register.

Rex laid down his money and sighed. “Are you paid enough to care?”

The cashier blinked a few times in slow thought before shrugging. “Fair.”

Rex grumbled and snatched the box, crushing it as he shoved it in a pocket and strode out.

Getting a little pussy?

“Oh my spirits! Shut up!” Rex groaned in the parking lot and caught the eye of a middle-aged woman in scrubs.

“You okay?” She tilted her head and immediately melted when Nite popped his head up, ears flicking.

“Mew?” Nite gave her his patented kitty eyes.

“Don’t let him fool you,” Rex grumbled and slouched over to his motorcycle before kicking off and roaring onto the road.

Grumpy? Nite snickered.

“You have no idea.” Rex made his way to the coven and roared into the garage, parking with haste.

Vince! Nite readied himself to jump out but squeaked as Rex blocked him.

“Nope! We go shower in the gym first.” Rex clutched Nite to his chest, and they turned down a wing to a set of doors leading into a retrofitted set of suites spanning with exercise equipment.

Nite glanced about curiously. Why do we need to shower first? Nite pinned his ears back.

“About six months ago, we found Vince in a situation like where we just came from. Kids don’t do wish I guess, which explains why the Rapture hasn’t hit them. He’d been left there a few days in his crib, unchanged and unfed. He was so sick and scared. Saw everything. He knows what this smell is and will be upset. So, we shower.” Rex fished Nite out as they strode into a tiled restroom with two stalls, one sink, and two showers, each of a comfortable size.

Oh. Yeah, showering is a good idea. Nite squeaked as Rex pulled Nite free.

With a gentle brush of his lips, Rex whispered into Nite’s ear, “Shift.”

If I shift it-it’s not as easy as being a cat. Nite’s back arched, fur prickling.

“I said shift.” Gravel rolled in Rex’s voice and Nite tensed, letting himself shift as he turned in Rex’s arms. His bare front spread flush against the warm wall of leather and spearmint. Rex tore away his jacket, somehow keeping one arm on Nite in a fluid motion. Easing his slender hands over Rex’s forearm, Nite helped him remove his wand holster, his fingertips brushing them with a shiver. Rex set them reverently aside and tugged his shirt off, letting the broad heat of his sienna skin meet his own.

Nite tilted his head up, pushing onto his tiptoes. And from the ridge tenting Rex’s jeans, he wanted it nearly as badly.
